Chaotic systems by definition exhibit sensitive dependence on initial conditions and have the capacity to display seemingly random behavior.Ìý Both of these properties make chaotic systems ideal to be used for encryption.Ìý Here we use a 4-dimensional autonomous chaotic system to create a synchronous stream cipher which can be used to encrypt arbitrarily long messages such as a phone call where the total number of bits needed is unknown in advance.Ìý Furthermore, the presented scheme is an involution, meaning that the decryption algorithm is identical to the encryption algorithm which significantly lowers the cost of implementation and simplifies it.
