Since 1986,Biochemistry at the hasoffereda world-class interdisciplinary research, education, and training environment in a beautiful mountain setting. Currently, the Biochemistry Departmenthas over 140 researchers, including 21 tenure-trackfaculty, 1 research faculty, 2 teaching professors, ~75 Ph.D. students, ~42 postdocs and scientists,~29technical staff, and 7 administrative staff. There are ~400 undergraduate Biochemistrymajors, many whoperform undergraduate research.

The Biochemistry Department is renowned for its research. The faculty include aNobel Laureate, 5members of the National Academy of Sciences, 3 Howard Hughes Investigators, and many other esteemed scientists who have established themselves as research leaders.In 2022, the BiochemistryDepartment had external awards of $39,797,430 and during from2010-2016 the department published over 800 articlesin scholarly journals. Overwhelmingly, these papers include graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduates as coauthors.
