Academic Programming Support Student Coordinators are undergraduate students at CU, in the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS), who play a critical role in supporting academic programming for undergraduate students. As an Academic Programming Support Student Coordinator, you will assist the CEAS Academic Success Team with the development, implementation, and assessment of workshops, practice exams sessions, and tabling events. You will have the opportunity to work alongside college partners in creating innovative and inclusive programming that supports academic skill building, fosters community and improves students university experience.

The number of hours per week can range from 5 -7, however, most weeks will not exceed 3-6 hours. Academic Programming Support Student Coordinators will work under the Academic Success Programming Specialist and with the professional Academic Success staff within the following areas of responsibility:

  • Training: Complete intensive training (approximately 15-20 hours in August) upon initial hiring during the 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the term and attend weekly team meetings throughout the semester for additional training.
  • Academic Success Programming: Assist and facilitate programming events during orientation and throughout the semester; assist with the marketing of academic resources; foster a sense of community, support students academic skill development and overall well-being.
  • Academic Success Innovation: Provide insight and ideas to improve academic success outreach, programs, and more, for undergraduate students in CEAS. This could involve being part of brainstorming sessions, focus groups, getting feedback from other students, talking with faculty, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current engineering undergraduate student
  • At the start of the position (not the time of application), the candidate must have completed two semesters within CEAS and must have at least two semesters remaining in their planned degree program.
  • Have the desire to mentor and support other students using practices that show value for diversity and encourage inclusive learning and reflection.
  • Strong interest in developing communication skills Ability to empathize and relate to other students.
  • Strongly encouraged to be available for half or full-day training sessions which may be virtual depending on availability of all employees. (Training dates will be announced depending on hiring date and new hire availability).
  • Academic Programming staff meeting – You will meet with the team of programming assistants and your supervisor approximately once a week for 1 hour, and you will be compensated for this time.
  • Work with your supervisor to decide which events you are available to assist with based on your semester schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public speaking experience, or desire to learn
  • Experience working with or mentoring peers
  • Participation in academic coaching, peer mentoring, or Fresh Start (COEN 2880)

Compensation:

  • CEAS Academic Programming Support Student Coordinators are paid hourly.
  • The hourly rate for continuing CEAS Academic Programming Support Student Coordinators will be determined based on experience, responsibility, and funding, with a starting rate of $16.85 per hour.
  • Open to non-work-study students and work-study students.
