Dear Infrastructure and Resilience team,

I hope your 2025 is off to a great start! It was great to see so many of you at our annual I&R appreciation luncheon where we shared a hearty meal and honored this year’s award winners.

At the luncheon, Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business Strategy (FBS) Todd Haggerty introduced himself and shared a few words about our recent organizational transition. I&R now reports to FBS and I am excited to be working with Todd more directly.

Last week, the I&R leadership team and some of their direct reports met for a retreat to focus on our mission, vision and values. I am proud to share that we have decided on our organization’s mission statement: We lead our beautiful campus to inspire student success. This powerful statement tells our peers what we do in a succinct, captivating way. We will continue to develop our vision and values as we identify the “why” and the “how” behind our mission.

Speaking of change, I want to acknowledge that our colleagues within Strategic Relations and Communications (SRC) had a department restructure last month. Several individuals from within SRC were laid off following the department’s shift in focus. These changes are isolated to SRC and I do not anticipate such significant restructuring within other departments.

The I&R leadership team also got a chance to interview the three finalists for the vice chancellor for sustainability role. I am on the search committee for this position and will be excited for any of the three finalists to start working at CU this semester.

I acknowledge there is a lot of construction on campus right now, and while this can impact how we get around, I am encouraged by all the change. It’s a reminder that we are working hard to reduce our deferred maintenance backlog and improve spaces for learning and living. Big shoutout to everyone helping make these projects happen – your hard work is literally building the future.

Finally, I want to recognize that February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate the significant contributions and achievements of Black Americans throughout history and acknowledge their vital role in shaping our nation's culture and progress. Let’s take a moment to reflect on and honor these contributions as we move forward.

How long have you been working at CU?�� I just celebrated two years with CU.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work? I’m a transplant from Oregon and have been focused on learning more about Colorado, from a design, cultural and ecological perspective.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you. In the twenty-teens I took a break from architecture to work as a mountain guide and field tech to support climate scientists and climate adaptability research in the Andes, Himalayas and Alaska.

What do you love about CU Boulder? The amazing research at CU, and working with my teammates to support it.

4 tips to prepare for cold weather

We all know Boulder will experience more snow and freezing temperatures this winter. Whether you're staying in town or leaving for the weekend, here are some tips to be prepared.

Keep your hands free while driving; it’s the law

The Hands-free Law went into effect on January 1, 2025. While driving, the best approach is to pull over if you have to make or receive a call. ��If you have to answer a call while in a vehicle, make sure to switch to hands-free accessories, such as car speaker systems, dashboard or phone mounts and apps such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Prescription safety glasses event coming Feb. 11 and 12

Our prescription safety glasses vendor, Eyelation, will be on campus on Feb. 11 and 12, 2025 from 8 am to 4 pm both days. More information about the FacMan prescription safety glasses program is available on the

FM Safety Committee

The FM safety committee meets the third Tuesday of every month to discuss general safety concerns, review safety reports and on-the-job injuries and recommend training needs and resources. If you are interested in attending a meeting or bringing an issue or idea that is safety related, please reach out to your area representative on the FM safety committee or contact our Safety Specialist Don Fitzpatrick.

ISIEC is now IROCC – pronounced I Rock or [ahy rok]

The Infrastructure and Resilience Opportunity for Change Committee, a.k.a. IROCC, is the new name for what was the I&S Inclusive Excellence Committee (ISIEC).

Why the name change? It's simple, with the departmental name change from I&S to I&R, we needed a new catchy name and acronym that describes what we do, which is to work to strengthen the I&R community and build culture by focusing on engagement, recognition, communication, and supporting employee development. Simply put, we work to create positive change and a true sense of belonging.

Recognizing the speed with which decisions are being made and orders being issued at the federal executive level, CU Boulder wants to ensure that you are aware of various resources available to explain the evolving situation. We recommend you bookmark the CU Boulder federal transition webpage and refer to it first when seeking information about the federal transition as it relates to our campus.

Students and employees with DACA, ASSET or another undocumented status can find more information on the Resources for Undocumented Employees and Students website. The Boulder County District Attorney’s Office has also provided guidance, and the city of Boulder launched a website that focuses on .

Oops, left your IT equipment at home? No worries! Please don’t borrow items (mouses, monitors, webcams) from the hoteling spaces or spare offices around campus. Just reach out to I&R Desktop Support, and we’ll get you the gear you need. We may have something in stock, or we can order it for you.

Attention tech fans: join mission mobile revamp! We’re looking for one or two team members to join the I&R IT team on the mobile device repair and replacement (R&R) project. This is your chance to help improve our cell phone and tablet policies and apps. By joining this group, you’ll bring your ideas and suggestions to the next version of our program. If you are a tech enthusiast, we'd love to have you as a part of the team. Please check with your supervisor, then reach out to Sandra Thrapp if you are interested.

I&R Star and Constellation Awards - Nov. and Dec. 2024

Regena Peltan (Transportation Services), nominated by Cheri Baumgartner

Regena was part of a big charter that Transportation had for the university. Regena received the highest of compliments sent by email from the University as well as the client. Regena's constant communication , and flexibility to please our customer went up and beyond and was very appreciated.

Alex Goff (CBS), nominated by Irma Bernard on behalf of Shelley Sheppeck (Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences building)

Since Alex has been assigned as custodian to our Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences building, Shelley writes that they have noticed a BIG difference in our bathroom cleanliness as well as overall appearance to the public areas of the building. Additionally, Alex presents with kindness and consideration as clients pass through the clinic and department. Thank you for all you do to keep our old building in the best shape as possible!

Matt Buck (PD&C), nominated by Blake Guyer (on behalf of Joan Gabriele)

Matt Buck managed a project for us this Summer, a re-carpeting/asbestos/partial remodel in Norlin Library S436 and associated offices.He was wonderful to work with. He was extremely communicative, knew what he was doing, and he handled all the little bumps that occur in construction projects with expertise and patience. We really appreciated the support Matt provided from beginning to end of the project.

Liz is always available to help. Specifically, she helps to make ArcGIS a tool that can be used for and by the Planning group. I believe her tireless support and positive attitude really allow PD&C to make big strides in data-informed decisions through data visualization. ��

Logan Floersch (Utility and Energy Services), nominated by Joshua Morse

Logan is a constant professional and always goes above and beyond to complete his work. He did outstanding work changing the booster feedwater pump, coming in on a day off to help get this pump back in service faster.

Peter Raemer (Transportation Services), nominated by Travor Smith

On July 31, 2024, Peter discovered a lost wallet while conducting a post-trip inspection after his Buff Bus driving shift. We worked together to locate the ID of the wallet owner, and searched the Colorado.edu email system with the hopes of finding them. It didn't take long to locate a possible match, and we were able to make contact with them via email to arrange a wallet drop-off. Peter was instrumental in locating the owner of the lost wallet and is very deserving of recognition for going above and beyond his expected job duties.

Carolina is an incredible resource to the campus building proctors. She is professional, collaborative, and an excellent teacher. Carolina encourages innovation and is a genuinely authentic person. It is a pleasure to work with her to get tasks accomplished and to see CU Boulder's values being lived out.��
