SBS Lab researchers <a href="/lab/sbs/node/24" rel="nofollow">Yangyang Fu</a> and <a href="/lab/sbs/node/22" rel="nofollow">Wei Tian</a> contributed to this new version.</p><p>This version contains the following major additions:</p><ul><li>Buildings.Experimental.DistrictHeatingCooling with models for district heating and cooling with bi-directional flow in the distribution pipes.</li><li>Buildings.Fluid.FMI.Adaptors and Buildings.Fluid.FMI.ExportContainers, which allow export of HVAC systems and of thermal zones as Functional Mockup Units.</li><li>Buildings.Fluid.HeatExchangers.ActiveBeams, with active beams for cooling and heating.</li><li>Buildings.Fluid.HeatExchangers.DXCoils.WaterCooled, with water-cooled direct expansion cooling coils.</li><li>Buildings.ThermalZones.ReducedOrder, with reduced order models of thermal zones based on VDI 6007 that are suitable for district energy simulation.</li><li>The models Buildings.HeatTransfer.Conduction.SingleLayer, Buildings.HeatTransfer.Conduction.MultiLayer, and Buildings.HeatTransfer.Windows.Window have been refactored to add the option to place a state at the surface of a construction. He&nbsp;gave a presentation at the semiar titled "From Buildings to Cities: Research and Development of Modelica-based Technique for Real-world Applications" at the Energy Technologies Area.</p><p>The contents of the presentation are listed below:</p><p>As an innovative approach for system modeling and simulation, the equation-based Modelica language has recently gained a lot of interests from the building industry. Despite the broad interests, the adoption of Modelica in the building industry is still in its early stage and there are not many real-world applications in the U.S. Based on the LBNL’s Modelica Buildings library, the Modelica-based technique was further developed and applied to solve real-world problems. Our research is to develop a Python-based dynamic optimization platform that can perform continuous optimization for various control settings of chilled water plants.
