CLASP Program 

The CLASP program seeks to bring cohesion to empirical and theoretical research currently conducted on the °µÍø½ûÇø campus in varied analytic traditions that focus on the study of culture, language, and social practice. These traditions include sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, social semiotics, literacy, bilingualism, second language acquisition, language endangerment and revitalization, narrative studies, language and digital media, symbolic interactionism, language variation and change, ethnography of speaking, and diverse forms of discourse analysis, such as conversation analysis, critical discourse analysis, ethnographic discourse analysis, interactional sociolinguistics, and multimodal discourse analysis.

The program rosters over 30 affiliated faculty members from a variety of schools and departments at CU Boulder, among them Anthropology, Communication, , French and Italian, German and Slavic, , Media Studies, Political Science, Spanish and Portuguese, Sociology, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Science, as well as 10 affiliated faculty members from other universities across the state of Colorado. A large cohort of CLASP graduate students are currently working toward the CLASP Graduate Certificate, which has now been earned by over 100 CLASP alumni. The program hosts visiting scholars whose research is at the intersection of language and society and regularly organizes CLASP-related events and conferences.
