The University of Colorado at Boulder will begin offering a new professional development course through its Division of Continuing Education in February called Six Sigma Black Belt, which has been used by Motorola, General Electric, Honeywell, Ford and other companies to minimize the cost of poor quality.

The university is partnering with Longmont-based ROI Alliance, LLC to provide the training that has been offered and successfully implemented to both Fortune 500 businesses and small businesses. A unique feature of the program at CU-Boulder will be the ability to offer the training remotely.

All attendees will be given copies of interactive video sessions so that topics covered in class can be studied again as needed. The online sessions consist of a small lecture recording, a content slide with real-time annotations, a text and audio chat feature, and the ability to pause or browse individual slides in the lecture.

Upcoming sessions will include a daytime course running one week per month for four months, an evening course running two weeks per month for four months, or a distance education course. All courses begin Feb. 7.

Significant savings have been documented from implementation of the program, according to ROI Alliance. In Six Sigma, a small group of "Black Belts" are trained as problem-solving experts to identify and eliminate sources of loss to a business.
