The University of Colorado at Boulder's Leeds School of Business, in partnership with the NorthStone Group, a Colorado-based consulting firm, will offer two new spring courses titled The Six Questions of Leadership and Humanizing the Negotiation Process.
The two-day courses will be offered to business executives seeking to strengthen their leadership and negotiation skills.
The Six Questions of Leadership course, taught by NorthStone partner Adam J. Goodman, who has a doctorate in management, will be held April 6-7 in Denver and Sept. 15-16 in Boulder. The class costs $1,250 and includes two days of instruction, all materials and breakfast and lunch on class days.
Using extensive, proprietary research by Goodman, participants will learn six essential questions and will assess how well their organization can answer these questions to enable effective leadership.
Goodman is a recognized leader in the field. He served as the president and CEO of CU's Leadership Institute for 12 years and is currently writing a book titled "The Essence of Leadership."
"Answering questions is often easier than asking the right questions, and leaders have a responsibility to help their team members and their organization succeed by asking the right questions," Goodman said. "This course is a unique opportunity for senior-level leaders to take action and drive results while enhancing their own portfolio of leadership abilities."
The Humanizing the Negotiating Process course, taught by NorthStone partner Rollie Heath, will be held May 18-19 in Denver and Nov. 17-18 in Boulder. The class costs $1,250 and includes two days of instruction, all materials and breakfast and lunch on class days.
Participants will learn useful negotiation strategies and tactics, and will practice these skills in class with videotaped mock negotiations that provide immediate feedback.
Heath, a Colorado business and civic leader and former Democratic nominee for governor of Colorado in 2002, will teach the course. Heath spent 17 years with Johns Manville Corp. While there, he managed businesses of approximately $1 billion in annual revenue and 10,000 employees, and served as the president of its International Corp. and its Building Materials Corp. He and several partners later founded Ponderosa Industries Inc., a manufacturing company where he was chairman and CEO.
"Negotiation is an integral part of both our business and personal lives," Heath said. "It is incumbent on each of us to understand the dynamics of the negotiating process so that we can use this knowledge to achieve better results in everything we do."
