The annual "Take Back the Night" event to raise awareness of sexual violence issues will be held at 7 p.m. at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Dalton Trumbo Fountain Court on Tuesday, April 19.
The event will feature a candlelight vigil and keynote address by Tsunami Rooney of the Safehouse Progressive Alliance for Nonviolence. The event was organized by Ngoc Ma of Sigma Psi Zeta, the Asian sorority on campus.
"This is an opportunity for students to take a stand against sexual violence and be a part of a culture change on the CU campus," said Teresa Wroe, coordinator of the CU Rape and Gender Education Program, or COURAGE.
"Take Back the Night" is one of many events being held in April as part of Sexual Assualt Awareness Month sponsored by COURAGE in collaboration with the Wardenburg Health Center and numerous campus organizations.
Among the activities are two workshops aimed at men: "Violence, Culture and Masculinity" on April 18 and "Sexual Violence: It's Every Man's Issue" on April 21. An event aimed at sexual violence and the transgender community will be held on April 20.
All events are free and open to the public. A complete schedule of events with times and locations is posted at .
