The Boulder Faculty Assembly at the University of Colorado at Boulder has honored 11 recipients of its BFA Excellence Award for 2004-05.

The $3,000 award is given annually for excellence in three categories: teaching, service, and research, scholarly and creative work. Up to four recipients are recognized in each category.

"Every year we are amazed and so impressed by the accomplishments of the winners," said assembly Chair Barbara Bintliff, a law professor. "They all had widespread support from colleagues and students. The breadth and depth of their activities demonstrate the extraordinary quality of our faculty."

Winners in the teaching category were nominated and selected by their colleagues. Assistant Professor Beth Dusinberre of classics, Associate Professor Michael Eisenberg of computer science, instructor Elena Kostoglodova of Germanic and Slavic languages and Professor Gary McClelland of psychology received awards for excellence in teaching.

Awards for excellence in research, scholarly and creative work were given to faculty members with an emphasis in areas such as interdisciplinary research, work accomplished with undergraduate students and integrated long-term achievements. Professor Patricia Adler of sociology, Professor Fred Anderson of history, Professor Andrzej Ehrenfeucht of computer science and Professor Alan Weimer of chemical and biological engineering were honored.

Excellence in service award winners were nominated and selected by their colleagues for their exceptional service to the university, students, colleagues, Colorado residents or national professional organizations. This year's winners were Professor David Armstrong of ecology and evolutionary biology, Professor David Clough of chemical and biological engineering and Professor David Kassoy of mechanical engineering.

The Boulder Faculty Assembly formulates policy and makes recommendations to administrators and the Board of Regents regarding matters of concern to the faculty. Funding for the awards is provided by the CU-Boulder chancellor.
