The University of Colorado at Boulder's Air Force ROTC Detachment has earned an "Outstanding" overall grade in its triennial Air Force inspection, which was completed in February 2005.
Last year, fewer than 10 percent of the 144 Air Force ROTC units throughout the country earned the Outstanding overall rating. Col. Bill Kunzweiler, commander of the CU-Boulder Air Force ROTC Detachment 105, said that Detachment 105 "is in its best shape ever, in terms of both size and the quality of our cadets."
"The cadets contribute to CU and the larger community daily as committed students and outstanding citizens," Kunzweiler said. "This rating just confirms what those of us at CU have known for a long time."
To earn an outstanding rating in the inspection, an ROTC detachment must perform at a high level in a range of factors including recruiting, education, training, personnel and unit support, and financial management. The inspections are conducted by an Air Force team that visits the campus every three years from the Air Force's Air Education and Training Command at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
CU-Boulder's Detachment 105 is ROTC's largest among its 34 Northwest Region Detachments, with nearly 240 cadets participating from the CU-Boulder campus plus 11 additional area institutions.
Detachment 105 expects to commission 50 cadets this year as Air Force second lieutenants. The spring commissioning ceremony will be at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, after CU-Boulder's commencement ceremony and will be located at "The Wildlife Experience" in Parker. Forty students will be commissioned.
