Audience members at the Oct. 22 "Light, Energy聟 Reaction!" CU Wizards show at the University of Colorado at Boulder will be invited to predict the outcome of a variety of chemical experiments.
Professor Veronica Bierbaum, a chemistry and biochemistry professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder, will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building, room 140. The show, aimed at students in grades five through nine, is free and open to the public.
The program, subtitled "The Magic of Chemistry," will focus on four classes of chemical reactions involving light, color changes, phase changes and formation of gasses. Four students will assist in the experiments. Clickers will be distributed to audience members so that students can register a prediction before the experiments are carried out.
CU Wizards is usually held the third or fourth Saturday of each month during the academic year and focuses on astronomy, chemistry and physics. Though intended primarily for students in grades five through nine, the shows are educational and entertaining to people of all ages.
Free parking for CU Wizards shows is available in campus lots 308 and 436. A nominal fee is charged for parking at the Euclid Avenue Autopark.
