University of Colorado at Boulder Professor Victor M. Bright has been appointed associate dean for research in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
The appointment, announced by Dean Robert H. Davis, was effective Oct. 31. Bright replaces Stein Sture, who was recently named interim vice chancellor for research and dean of the Graduate School at CU-Boulder.
Bright is a professor of mechanical engineering and an expert in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). He has published more than 70 journal articles and received extensive funding from the National Science Foundation, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and Air Force Office of Scientific Research. He also serves as editor of the Micromechanics Section of the Elsevier journal, Sensors and Actuators A: Physical.
Bright joined the CU-Boulder faculty in 1998. He previously was a professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.
He received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Colorado at Denver in 1986, and his master's and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1989 and 1992, respectively.
