A panel discussion, "In a Strange Land: Becoming an International Journalist," will be held at the University of Colorado at Boulder on March 22 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Eaton Humanities Building room 1B80.
The panel is sponsored by the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and will be moderated by Dean Paul S. Voakes. It is free and open to the public.
Five journalists with experience as foreign correspondents will talk about the risks and rewards of living and working abroad, according to Elizabeth Gaeddert, the school's director of career services. The panelists are:
o Doug Cosper has coached students and working journalists in various countries including Romania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Vietnam. Previously, he was a foreign correspondent for United Press International in The Hague, Netherlands. He has a master's degree from CU-Boulder.
o Andrew Gumbel is an award-winning U.S. correspondent for the London newspaper The Independent. Gumbel will be in Boulder as a Hearst Professional-in-Residence.
o Hun Shik Kim is an assistant professor at CU-Boulder's School of Journalism. He has covered various international conflicts and crises, such as the Iraq War and the Indo-Pakistani conflict over Kashmir, for the Korean Broadcasting System in Seoul.
o Beth Potter is a business writer for The Denver Post. She covered the Iraq War for two years for Agence France-Presse.
o Andrea Welsh covers Brazil for the Dow Jones Newswire. She is a Ted Scripps Fellow at the CU-Boulder Center for Environmental Journalism.
