The Office of Diversity and Equity at the University of Colorado at Boulder has awarded 2006 Equity and Excellence Awards to eight faculty, staff and students.

Faculty and staff are chosen for their commitment to academic excellence, cultural pluralism and diversity in the university community. This year's staff recipients were Mark Augustin of Organizational and Employee Development, Ann Scarritt of the Student Academic Services Center and Barbara Kraus of the Colorado Diversity Initiative. The faculty recipients were Professor Reiland Rabaka of the ethnic studies department and Professor Cecelia Pang of the department of theatre and dance.

Students are selected for their demonstration of outstanding service to the university community and within multiculturally diverse communities on campus, as well as a commitment to academic excellence. Winners of the student awards were undergraduate student Karen Shimamoto and graduate student Hussain Raheem.

This year a special honor was given to Elease Robbins, associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students, for her outstanding contributions to the university community.

Awardees were honored at the 21st Annual Equity and Excellence Graduation Celebration and Awards Banquet on April 27. Each winner received a certificate and a $200 award.

A request for Equity and Excellence Award nominations is announced each spring and a committee of former recipients recommends the awardees.
