Historian, writer and social activist Howard Zinn, author of "A People's History of the United States," will speak about illegal immigration and other issues at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
CU-Boulder's Cultural Events Board is sponsoring the talk, which will take place at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Glenn Miller Ballroom at the University Memorial Center. The event "Who You Callin' an Alien, Pilgrim?" is free and open to the public.
"Zinn will emphasize that it is important to tell human history from all perspectives to get a more complete and less biased view of our past," said Shelby Myers, advertising and media director for the events board. "History may be written by the conquerors, but it can be told - and should be heard - by everyone."
Born in 1922 into a family of Jewish immigrants living in Brooklyn, N.Y., Zinn was a B-17 bombardier during World War II, an experience that deeply shaped his personal beliefs about the nature of war. Since the 1960s, he has been at the forefront of anti-war and civil rights movements.
No signs or recording devices will be allowed in the audience. Audience members will be allowed to use flash photography during the first 10 minutes of Zinn's talk.
