The University of Colorado at Boulder's Silicon Flatirons Program will present the first of four spring conferences, "The Digital Broadband Migration: The Next Wave of Innovation," on Feb. 11-12.
Leaders from high-tech industry, government and academia including Liberty Global CEO Michael Fries, Federal Trade Commissioner William Kovacic and appellate Judge Stephen Williams will explore the future of Internet broadband capabilities at the event.
"We are delighted to bring together a stellar group of individuals to grapple with the critical questions raised by technological convergence," said law Professor Phil Weiser, founder of the Silicon Flatirons Program. "We also are thrilled that we have three other first-rate events to follow this one."
On March 5, "Re-Examining Open Source and Community Development" will be held from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will examine the issues facing open source software development.
On March 21, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Silicon Flatirons and CU-Boulder's Center of the American West will co-sponsor "The Web and the West: Comparing Two Frontiers."
Historians and telecommunications experts from Colorado and around the country, including CU-Boulder history Professor Patty Limerick, winner of a MacArthur "genius grant" Fellowship and co-founder of the Center of the American West, will discuss how the still-emerging technologies frontier of the World Wide Web shares growing pains with the development of the American West.
On April 9 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., the last of the four conferences, "Regional Difference in Representing Growth Companies," will explore how regional corporate laws influence entrepreneurial growth in the telecommunications industry.
All conferences will be held in the Wolf Law Building located on the south end of the Boulder campus near Baseline Road and Broadway.
CU-Boulder students, faculty and staff can attend all four conferences at no charge but are encouraged to register. Continuing legal education credits are available for each event.
