University of Colorado at Boulder Statement
by spokesman Bronson Hilliard on behalf of the combined CU-Boulder campus leadership regarding the Feb. 21 hate crime incident in Boulder:
"On behalf of the entire University of Colorado at Boulder community, we condemn the hate crime that occurred in Boulder early Wednesday morning. Homophobia and violence have no place in our community -- or any community -- and run counter to the human values represented by both CU-Boulder and Naropa University.
"We want the victim of this outrageous incident to know she has the support of the CU-Boulder community in this difficult time. To our own campus GLBTQ community, we offer the support of the campus leadership and our entire campus community during this moment of pain and outrage.
"Finally, we mark this tragic event as a reminder to our faculty, staff, students and administration of the importance of looking out for each another, and aiding each other, in instances where hate reveals itself. Whenever bias-motivated violence arises, our best and most effective response is to show compassion, support and fellowship, even as we work for change.
"For those of our community who may be experiencing reactions because of recent incidents, there are a number of services available. You are encouraged to contact Counseling and Psychological Services at (303) 492-6766, which can assist you or help you find an appropriate campus support resource."
