A scheduled, sanctioned University of Colorado at Boulder Naval ROTC national competition set for Saturday, April 28, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. will involve the use of firearms, and university officials want to alert the public so that people will not be alarmed given the events on school campuses during the past two weeks.

The Naval ROTC program will be hosting its annual Colorado Invitational, which will involve sailing, endurance running, a rifle and pistol shooting match and color guard and drill team competitions. At least 12 Naval ROTC units from universities throughout the United States will be competing on campus.

Shooting events will be conducted in the indoor shooting range facility near the north end of Balch Fieldhouse All rifles and pistols will be transported in cases until they are inside the range facility. A color guard and drill competition will be held on the business field, and involves the use of non-firing rifles.

CU Police have been notified of the competition.
