University of Colorado at Boulder sophomore Kyle DeLapp, who recently was awarded the Carnegie Medal for saving four youngsters from drowning in Florida, will meet Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson and Leeds School of Business Dean Dennis Ahlburg on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 10 a.m. in the chancellor's office at 914 Broadway.

DeLapp, a CU-Boulder business major from Roswell, GA, is one of 19 individuals in the United States and Canada to be honored with the medal for risking "their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others." Given by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission of Pittsburgh, the medal is accompanied by a $5,000 grant.

The Sept. 20 naming of 19 awardees was the fourth award announcement of 2007, for a total of 77 in 2007.

In April 2006, DeLapp and two friends rescued three young boys and a young girl from a strong current in the Gulf of Mexico that was dragging them out to sea from a beach in San Destin, Fla. The three young men swam into the dangerous current and brought the four youngsters safely to shore.
