New distance learning capabilities in the newly expanded and renovated Koelbel Building will enhance international outreach efforts at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Leeds School of Business by providing the ability to export classes around the globe.

"New distance learning capabilities in the Koelbel Building at the Leeds School will enable Leeds faculty and students to engage in joint learning experiences with compatriots of leading business schools around the world," said Dipankar Chakravarti, professor of marketing at the Leeds School.

In the summer, Chakravarti arranged a partnership with the Indian Institute of Management in Calcutta and the Leeds School to provide an international immersion program at the Leeds School involving teaching, research and academic collaboration. Nine executive MBA students took part in the five-week program.

Chakravarti is convinced the new Koelbel facilities will further enhance the quality of experiences by international students. The IIMC is considered to be among India's top three business programs. The school admits about 350 students to its Post Graduate Diploma in Management program from about 180,000 applicants.

The Leeds School also has developed executive education programs for international clients including the Bank of Indonesia and the Korea Power Exchange. The custom-designed program for Korea Power Exchange executives by the Leeds School's executive development program instructs 30 executives in energy markets, utility management and electricity market operations.

The Korea Power Exchange executives completed two online finance courses in the spring, attended classes on the CU-Boulder campus this summer and are finishing the program with distance learning technology this fall with classes in energy pricing and policy.

Response by international students has been positive.

"This program was a wonderful experience. Boulder is a beautiful community and the work experience was extremely enriching," said Kabir Sayed Enayet, one of the IIMC students.
