An exhibition of 30 images combining science and art created by University of Colorado scientists, students and artists will be on view at CU-Boulder's Fiske Planetarium from Nov. 1 through Dec. 31.
The exhibition, "Art in Science/Science in Art," is part of a growing movement in the art world in which scientific principles are illustrated in artworks. The exhibition will open at CU-Boulder with a public reception at Fiske Planetarium on Thursday, Nov. 1, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The exhibition came together after CU faculty and student scientists were asked to submit images they made as part of their everyday work that could be considered art. Artists whose images illustrated or offered insights into scientific principles also were invited to take part. Of the hundreds of images that were submitted, 30 pieces were selected to be part of "Art in Science/Science in Art."
Organized by Helen Macfarlane, a medical illustrator at the University of Colorado Denver and Dr. J. John Cohen, an immunologist with CU's School of Medicine, the exhibition has been on display at the Boulder Public Library since Sept. 11 and after appearing at Fiske Planetarium will move to the Lafayette Public Library.
"Dr. Cohen's and Helen Macfarlane's exhibition "Art in Science/Science Art" is a visual treat," said Gail Siegel, director of CU-Boulder's Office of Community Relations. "As curators they've picked some outstanding images that have been a pleasure to share with our campus and local community."
