Biofuels experts from universities, government and industry will participate in a public forum at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Thursday, Nov. 8, to discuss new research on ethanol fuels and their use in Colorado in the coming years.

The event is hosted by the Colorado Center for Biorefining and Biofuels, or C2B2, a joint center of CU-Boulder, Colorado State University, the Colorado School of Mines, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and 27 industrial partners headquartered at CU-Boulder. The event will have participants from C2B2, General Motors, the Governor's Biofuels Coalition and industry. Topics will include the production of biofuels from nonedible cellulose products like grasses, wood chips and corn stalks and the availability and the increasing use of ethanol in Colorado in the coming years.

The forum will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the CU-Boulder College of Engineering and Applied Science's Discovery Learning Center, located near the southwest corner of Regent Drive and Colorado Avenue. Metered parking is available to the south of the Engineering Center and paid parking also is available at the Euclid Avenue Autopark, located just east of the University Memorial Center.

Participants will include CU-Boulder chemical and biological engineering Assistant Professor Ryan Gill, managing director of C2B2; NREL strategic analyst Bob Wallace; John Dorgan, C2B2 site director for CSU; and Candace Wheeler of GM. Other speakers include Jim Geist of Great West Ethanol, an ethanol producer, and Roger Guzman of Evergreen Mountain Market, a retail ethanol distributor. Both Geist and Guzman are members of the Governor's Biofuels Coalition.

Founded by the Colorado Renewable Energy Collaboratory in March 2007 to increase the production and use of energy from renewable resources, C2B2 announced $500,000 in seed grants last week to fund 10 projects from the four institutions, including several involving ethanol research.
