MEDIA ADVISORY
At approximately 11:50 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, emergency personnel responded to a fire alarm pull at the Kittredge Commons building on the CU-Boulder campus. Emergency responders included City of Boulder firefighters, University of Colorado Police and officials from CU-BoulderÂ’s department of Environmental Health and Safety.
Housing and Dining Hall employees in the Commons building reported being exposed to fumes from an unknown origin that caused irritation to their eyes, throats and noses.
Emergency responders treated the affected individuals at the scene while EH&S officials began air tests. The Kittredge Commons building was evacuated and the dining room, kitchen and offices on its first floor were closed for about two hours while the tests were in progress. Four CU-Boulder employees were taken to the hospital for precautionary examinations and all were treated and released by Monday afternoon.
As of 3 p.m., air-monitoring tests at the scene had revealed no abnormalities and a cause for the fumes had not been determined. Environmental tests and interviews with Kittredge Commons employees are still in progress, and normal operations have resumed at the complex.
