All University of Colorado alumni military veterans are invited to join CU President Hank Brown and the CU-Boulder Alumni Association for an inaugural veterans club event at the Brown Palace Hotel in Denver on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 11:30 a.m.

Brown, a CU alumnus, will begin the program by sharing his own experiences as a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War. He will be followed by a brief presentation by Nate Braden, former Marine and CU graduate. Braden will present the club's mission and information about the newly established CU Office of Veterans Affairs headed by retired Marine Col. Greg Akers. Akers will be available to answer questions on CU veterans programs.

The veterans club hopes to create a forum for CU veterans and alumni to come together and socialize. The group will meet quarterly in addition to hosting social events. Along with the CU Office of Veterans Affairs, it will offer mentoring opportunities for returning veterans and assist with job placement, as well as providing information on GI benefits, CU admissions, financial aid and other questions. In addition, the club hopes to raise scholarship funds to supplement the GI Bill to make CU more affordable to veterans.

The event includes lunch. Reservations are required and the cost is $15 per person. To register, call the Alumni Association at 303-492-8484 or 800-492-7743, or e-mail Eileen Egloff at eileen.egloff@colorado.edu. Veterans interested in learning more about the club should contact Nate Braden at 303-324-8062 or nbraden@americaandtheworld.com.
