A cross-disciplinary panel of noted scientists and experts will discuss "Peak Oil and the Future of Energy" at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Thursday, March 20.

Panelists include CU chemistry Professor and CU Environmental Initiative Director Carl Koval, Association for the Study of Peak Oil-USA President Steve Andrews, Colorado Governor's Energy Office representative Morey Wolfson and National Renewable Energy Laboratory Biofuels Group Manager Jim McMillan.

The free, public event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Center for British and Irish Studies on the fifth floor of Norlin Library. Sponsored by CU's University Libraries, the event is the second in an ongoing series of discussions moderated by Richard Brenne, author of the forthcoming book "The Truth °µÍø½ûÇø Everything."

Invited experts in the audience will answer questions in their areas of expertise, and in the second hour all audience members are invited to join the discussion with brief comments and questions. Some questions to be discussed include: How imminent is "peak oil" and what could it mean globally and to our nation? What alternative fuels and energy sources can fill the gap and what are the consequences of using them? And how do we transition from a fossil fuel to a renewable energy economy?

Related panel discussions will be held on April 17 to address climate change and on May 15 to consider what climate and energy issues might mean to social justice. Both events will be held in Norlin Library's Center for British and Irish Studies on Thursday evenings at 6 p.m.
