The University of Colorado at Boulder and the American Red Cross on Monday will sponsor a donation drive to aid victims of disaster in Colorado like those devastated by Thursday's deadly tornadoes in Weld County, Colo.

Volunteers from the Red Cross and University of Colorado will be stationed at three collection points around Folsom Field - the endpoint of the DICK'S Sporting Goods BolderBoulder 10K race - to collect donations from race fans, runners, their family members and members of the Boulder community.

"We count on the people of Colorado and their generous spirit to help us provide vital disaster relief assistance every day," said Red Cross CEO Christine Benero. "We know that our neighbors and friends will come to the aid of those affected by the tornadoes and help us make sure we can quickly respond whenever and wherever disaster strikes in Colorado."

"The university wants to do its part to aid our neighbors and friends in Weld County," said CU-Boulder Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson. "This disaster impacts all of Colorado, and we are honored to partner with the Red Cross in raising vital funds to aid recovery efforts."

CU volunteers aiding in the drive include representatives of the University of Colorado Student Union and the CU Athletic Department. They will join Red Cross volunteers at three CU booths placed strategically around the stadium and will accept donations by cash or check.

Those who cannot attend the race but who wish to donate may visit the Northern Colorado Red Cross Web site at / or by calling 970-226-5728. Donations may be mailed to: American Red Cross Centennial Chapter, 120 Saturn Drive, Fort Collins, CO 80525.
