University of Colorado leaders today lauded the U.S. Senate's appointment of CU attorney Christine Arguello to the U.S. District Court in Denver.

"We are proud of Christy's achievements, and feel privileged to have her represent our university," said CU President Bruce D. Benson. "As Christy is sworn in and assumes her new role as a federal judge, we will watch with appreciation and a deep sense of gratitude and respect. We are confident she will represent the state of Colorado with the same integrity and dedication she has shown while serving her alma mater."

"We wish Christy success in all her future endeavors, especially as she assumes this important new role in our nation's judicial branch," Benson said.

For his part, CU-Boulder Chancellor G.P. "Bud" Peterson said, "Christine Arguello is one of CU's accomplished alumni. As chief legal counsel for CU-Boulder, our campus has benefited from her principled approach to legal issues. Our federal courts will profit from her wisdom, experience and unparalleled ethics. She will be an outstanding U.S. District Court judge."

Arguello, a Colorado native, graduated from CU-Boulder in 1977 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She received a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1980. Since 2006, she has been lead counsel for CU-Boulder, and serves the Office of the President. Arguello is a tenured law professor who taught at the University of Kansas Law School. Before joining CU, she was a partner at the law firm of Davis Graham & Stubbs LLP.

"I am truly humbled by my appointment to the U.S. District Court bench. I want to thank everyone who stepped forward and worked hard to make sure my nomination wasÌýgiven due consideration. IÌýespecially want to thank Sen. Ken Salazar and Sen. Wayne Allard for the time and energy they committed to ensure that Phil Brimmer and I would beÌýconfirmed by the Senate," Arguello said.

"Now the hard work on my part begins.ÌýI look forward to working with Judge Brimmer and my other colleagues on theÌýdistrict court bench.ÌýIÌýpledge toÌýthe people of ColoradoÌýthat I will do everything in my power to live up to the confidence that has been placed in me as a result of this appointment," she said.
