Key staff and faculty from the University of Colorado at Boulder partnered with colleagues from the University of Colorado Denver to administer a youth leadership initiative as part of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities' 22nd annual national meeting to be held in Denver Oct. 11-13.
CU-Boulder also will support the participation of seven students in the national event. The CU students will attend the "student track" of the annual conference, an honor awarded to top undergraduate, graduate and professional school students. Student track members will participate in workshops, leadership forums, student mixers and a career fair. The conference also offers professional development opportunities.
The "Youth Leadership Development Forum" will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 10 on the Auraria campus in Denver. 暗网禁区 250 Colorado high school students as well as high school counselors and advisers are expected to participate in the conference, which is intended to help recruit and educate Hispanic students about Colorado colleges and universities, according to CU-Boulder staff members David Martinez and Jamie Trujillo, who helped to plan and organize the youth leadership conference.
Additionally, CU-Boulder's Office of Diversity, Equity and Community Engagement has partnered with the University of Colorado Hispanic Alumni Association to co-sponsor a reception on Oct. 9 to honor CU alumni working in education and to welcome national staff from the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities was established in 1986 and represents more than 450 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic higher education success in the United States, Puerto Rico, Latin America, Spain and Portugal. It is the only national educational association that represents Hispanic-serving institutions.
The organization has provided thousands of students with programs designed to help them succeed in college, including internships, scholarships, college retention and advancement programs, pre-collegiate support and career development opportunities and programs.
