A free, daylong Safe Schools Regional Training conference will be offered to the public Oct. 23 in Fort Collins by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

The conference, co-hosted by the new Colorado School Safety Resource Center, will include an overview of school violence provided by CSPV Executive Director Delbert Elliott in addition to sessions on crisis planning, threat assessment, school discipline, the Safe2Tell hotline and other topics.

Elliott also will discuss a new tool in school safety to be offered to all Colorado schools starting next year -- an online school climate survey and school safety checklist. Elliott is a nationally renowned expert on school safety who was the senior scientific editor of the U.S. Surgeon General's report on youth violence in 2000.

CSPV is part of the Institute of Behavioral Science at CU-Boulder and provides the research and prevention component of the Colorado School Safety Resource Center. For more information visit the CSPV Web site at or call 303-492-1032.
