An annual assistive technology conference co-sponsored by the University of Colorado at Boulder will highlight the availability and potential benefits of assistive technology in education and business with more than 50 workshops.

The 11th annual Accessing Higher Ground conference on assistive technology and accessible media in higher education will be held at the Millennium Harvest House Boulder, adjacent to the CU campus, on Nov. 11-14.

Program coordinators at the CU-Boulder AT Lab and Disability Services are bringing together national leaders in the field of assistive technology and media to educate students, staff, faculty and the community on the availability and potential benefits of assistive technology in education and business. Participating organizations this year include Equal Access to Software and Information, the Association on Higher Education and Disability and Access Technologist's Higher Education Network.

More than 50 workshops, including hands-on labs, will be presented throughout the conference on topics including Web and media access, Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, legal requirements and policy issues, and accommodations for students with learning disabilities, visual impairments and physical disabilities.

The AHG Conference offers an intimate setting for 200 attendees to learn about and teach about the tools needed by educators and professionals to accommodate disabled people in work and school settings. Past attendees have consistently appreciated conference offerings on more advanced topics and instruction.

This year's keynote speaker is Jason Regier, president of the Denver Harlequins Rugby Club. Riegler is a quadriplegic who is a wheelchair rugby athlete. He won a gold medal at the 2008 Paralympic Games in China.

Also, this year's final plenary luncheon features a panel moderated by Dennis Stone of TecAccess titled "From the Battlefield to the Classroom: Accommodating Veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars." The panel will bring experts together to talk about the challenges of integrating disabled veterans into the classroom.
