The University of Colorado at Boulder today named Deb Coffin as the new associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students, a position she has held since July in an interim appointment.
"Deb Coffin exemplifies collaborative and energetic leadership," said Julie Wong, vice chancellor for student affairs. "She has a proven record of developing quality initiatives while providing exceptional service to students and their families."
Coffin has worked at the university for seven years. Prior to her latest appointment, she served as assistant vice chancellor for student affairs and supervised the departments of Housing and Dining, Residence Life, Greek Life, and the Alcohol and Other Drugs Program. Coffin has worked in higher education for more than 26 years in appointments at CU-Boulder, the University of Wyoming and the University of Northern Colorado.
"We look forward to working with Deb in our close relationship with Student Affairs and as the dean of students," said Dustin Farivar, University of Colorado Student Union tri-executive. "She is a wonderful advocate for students and we admire her ability to collaborate with everyone on campus to provide a quality student experience."
Coffin has a master's degree in human communications theory, a bachelor's degree in biology education, and a bachelor's degree in community health education, all from the University of Northern Colorado.
In her new position, Coffin will oversee a number of areas including Student Success and Retention, Victim Assistance, Housing and Dining Services, Residence Life, the University Memorial Center, Judicial Affairs and Orientation.
"I am deeply honored to receive this appointment," said Coffin. "I look forward to working closely with Vice Chancellor Julie Wong, with student leaders and with a wonderful Student Affairs division to advance the well-being and quality of student life at CU-Boulder."
