The University of Colorado at Boulder will temporarily close a section of 18th Street on campus in March to allow contractors to complete utility work for the Visual Arts Complex.
From Saturday, March 14, through Monday, March 16, access will be restricted to one lane beginning just north of the ATLAS building and extending south to the north side of the Environmental Design Building.
From Tuesday, March 17, through Sunday, March 29, this same section will be completely closed except for emergency vehicle access.
The work is being done to complete a campus utility tie-in for chilled water and steam service to the new Visual Arts Complex, which also is under construction. To get to these utility lines the contractors, Mortenson and MTech, must dig trenches that are the width of 18th Street from curb to curb.
Walkways will be available for pedestrians, bikes, skateboarders and disabled access during this period. However, alternate routes are suggested for safety and to avoid delays.
All bus transportation into campus using 18th Street will be rerouted through different streets in and around campus. Maps of the alternate routes are posted at .
Bus commuters also can find more information about the bus rerouting from RTD and CU Parking and Transportation Services' campus construction Web site at .
