The artistic interplay of aural and visual technologies will be featured in the University of Colorado at Boulder's ATLAS Institute on Friday, April 17, as part of the citywide Communikey Festival of Electronic Arts.

The day will be filled with free workshops and performances that integrate and create immersive audio and video experiences, some of which offer audience interaction.

One highlight of the day will be a demonstration of a pre-release version of an audio software known as Max for Live. The software, scheduled for official release later this year, offers non-programmers a way to manipulate music and other audio effects in the popular software program called Live, which is produced by Ableton, a German software company. Live is a high-end audio program popular with artists, musicians and DJs for creating sound and music in live performances.

Live also can integrate with video programs such as Isadora to produce highly imaginative and interactive video/sound/music performances in real time.

The Communikey festival, which is in its second year and is held in Boulder over the Earth Day weekend, provides creative forums for the exploration of electronic music and new media arts. The three-day event features software workshops, installations, a film screening followed by a panel discussion, and evening showcases.

ATLAS is an institute for undergraduate, graduate and outreach programs that supports technology education for people and programs that traditionally do not have access to equipment and resources. ATLAS is located on the CU-Boulder main campus just east of the Visual Arts Complex construction site and north of the Euclid Avenue Autopark. For specific directions visit .
