The University of Colorado at Boulder is hosting four alcohol-screening events April 13-16 where students can have a professional assessment of their drinking patterns and the risks associated with those patterns.

Sponsored by CU-Boulder's Counseling and Psychological Services office and the CU Parents Association, the screenings involve a quick student survey followed by an assessment by a licensed therapist of each student's risks from alcohol use. A main part of the assessment is to determine whether students have a pattern of binge drinking, and if they do, explaining the risks associated with their behavior.

Students who are unable to attend any of the alcohol screening events on campus also can take the screening online at .

"The goal of the event is to help raise awareness of the risks of binge drinking alcohol, and to offer some alternatives to reduce this risky behavior," said Matthew Tomatz, the substance abuse program coordinator at CU-Boulder.

Students are invited to participate in any of the following alcohol screenings:

o April 13 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in Darley Commons.

o April 14-16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the University Memorial Center dining area outside Baby Doe's.

Students also are invited to attend three other campus events focusing on alcohol and other drug education and finding alternatives to alcohol use:

o April 16 from 1 to 2 p.m. in UMC 384, the Counseling and Psychological Services office is sponsoring the presentation "Cursed Concentration: The Ups and Downs of Adderall Use on the College Campus."

o April 17 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Willard Hall, room 231, the Counseling and Psychological Services office is sponsoring the presentation "Natural Highs: Healthy Alternatives to Drugs and Alcohol."

o April 19 at 2 p.m. at North Boulder Park, the group Phoenix Multisport is sponsoring an afternoon of activities including hiking, biking and a picnic in the park. The group fosters a supportive, physically active community for individuals who are recovering from substance abuse and who choose to live a sober life. To RSVP visit .
