Margaret Coel, the New York Times best-selling author of the Wind River Reservation mystery series, will speak at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Friday, May 15.

Coel is appearing as part of the CU-Boulder Friends of the Libraries' annual "Just Desserts" event. Her talk will follow a free, catered reception beginning at 7 p.m. at the Wittemyer Courtroom of the Wolf Law Building on the CU-Boulder campus. The entire event is free and open to the public.

Coel is a native Coloradan who hails from a pioneer Colorado family. Her novels have been on the best-seller lists of numerous newspapers, including the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. "The Spirit Woman" won both the Colorado Book Award and the Willa Cather Award for Best Novel of the West. It also was a finalist for the Western Writers of America prestigious Spur Award for best novel. "The Shadow Dancer" also won a Colorado Book Award.

Along with the Wind River Reservation mystery series, Coel is the author of five nonfiction books including the award-winning "Chief Left Hand," a biography of the Arapaho chief and history of the Arapahos in Colorado that has never gone out of print. The Colorado Historical Society recently included "Chief Left Hand" among the best 100 books on Colorado history.

Coel's latest books, "Blood Memory" and "The Girl With the Braided Hair," will be available for sale and signing at the event.

The event is co-sponsored by the Camera. Free parking will be available west of the Wolf Law Building in lot 470.
