University of Colorado at Boulder Interim Provost Stein Sture today named Russell Moore interim vice chancellor for research and John Stevenson interim dean of the Graduate School. The two posts were united into one position under Sture, whom CU-Boulder Chancellor Phil DiStefano named CU's interim provost on May 15.

Moore has served as associate vice chancellor for research since 2006. He was a co-chair of the Flagship 2030 Task Force on Research, Scholarship and Creative Work in 2008 and is a professor in CU-Boulder's integrative physiology department. He served as chair of that department from 1994 to 2001. He came to CU-Boulder in 1993 from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, where he served on the faculty in the departments of medicine and cellular and molecular physiology.

Stevenson has spent his entire academic career at CU-Boulder as a professor in the English department. He served as chair of the Flagship 2030 Task Force on Graduate Education in 2008, and has been associate dean of the Graduate School and associate vice chancellor for graduate education since 2005. He was chair of the English department from 1996 to 2004 and came to CU-Boulder in 1982.

"I have strong confidence in these two able and talented administrators," said Sture. "Both are knowledgeable about every aspect of the university's academic mission, and both bring strong leadership abilities to their respective positions. They will provide vision and a steady hand as we seek new permanent leadership for these key posts."

Sture said it was important that the two positions be separated since "under our Flagship 2030 Strategic Plan, each designated responsibility is large enough and important enough to demand its own full-time post."

Both Moore and Stevenson promised a smooth transition in their respective roles.

"CU-Boulder has a remarkably productive and creative faculty of researchers and scholars, and Stein Sture has been a tireless and effective advocate for them in his role as vice chancellor for research," Moore said. "I'm privileged to build upon his important work on behalf of the CU-Boulder faculty and research support staff."

"The Flagship 2030 Strategic Plan highlights the need to strengthen our commitment to graduate education, and I am excited by the prospect of helping ensure that goal in this important post," said Stevenson. "I look forward to working with our very gifted faculty, staff and students."
