CU-Boulder is replacing our aging telephone and voice messaging systems with a new Cisco Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Unified Communications system. In the coming weeks, a number of changes will occur to lay the foundation for the new system. Some of these changes require your attention.

Incoming Call Configuration Change on July 12

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) will be making modifications on Saturday, July 12 from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you are placing a call from off-campus to a university extension while the change is in progress, you may be disconnected or encounter a fast busy signal. ÌýPlease hang up and try again.

Voicemail Change on July 23 - Action Required

On the evening of Wednesday, July 23 campus voicemail services will be transitioned to a new Cisco voicemail system. The move to the new system requires you to set a new password and record new voicemail greetings before you can retrieve new messages. OIT will provide instructions with a dial-in number so you can make these changes at your convenience beginning July 15. If you are unable to set your new password and record your greeting before the evening of July 23, callers will be able to leave you a voicemail message; however, they will receive a generic greeting.

Please note that messages in your current Avaya voicemail inbox will not be moved to the new Cisco system, and you will lose access to these messages once the switchover occurs. If you need to save recorded messages in their entirety, consider making a voice recording of the message with your mobile device. If you need to capture information from your recorded messages, write down that information before the close of business on July 23.

Rollout of New Phones

In mid-September, OIT will roll out new Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones to a small group of beta testers to ensure they are operating properly. After testing is complete, general rollout of the VoIP phones will take place on a building-by-building basis and is anticipated to take 18 to 24 months to complete.

Funding for this technology upgrade will be provided via the existing connectivity fee.
