The new CU-Boulder Center for Student Involvement is now open on campus, featuring a new structure meant to better serve and support students and student organizations.
The new office was created by the CUSG Tri-Execs, with the support of the Division of Student Affairs, to address the needs of students and student organizations on campus that were not being met previously, according to Kristen Rollins, director of the new center.
"We are excited to welcome students to campus this fall and kick off an exciting year," Rollins said. "Stop by our new office to meet the staff and find out more about what’s going on around campus and ways to get involved."
The new center will host an open house on Thursday, Sept. 3, 3 to 5 p.m. in the UMC room 231.
In August 2014, CUSG Tri-Execs traveled to a number of universities to look at various Student Involvement/Activities models, and as a result of the visits and communication with a variety of students and student organizations, CUSG decided a new model was needed to promote and ensure successful student involvement at CU-Boulder. The new office combines the Student Organization Finance Office and the University Memorial Center’s Student Involvement, Activities, and Leadership Development Office teams.
"The vision of the new office is to connect all CU-Boulder students with experiences that promote student success, personal growth, and a vibrant campus community," Rollins said. "Within the new center, there has been additional staff added to our team to support and serve students and student organizations. In addition, students can expect to see increased opportunities for involvement on campus."
The temporary location of the new office will be on the second floor of the University Memorial Center in room 231, while the permanent location on the third floor of the UMC undergoes a renovation through the middle of the spring semester. The new space will open spring of 2016 and will include a student group resource center, lockers for student groups, collaborative lounge space for students and office space for staff.
