Mike Hannigan, professor and chair of the Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering, can speak to the scientific literature conducted on the effects of fireworks on urban air quality.Ìý
Jennifer Balch, associate professor of geography and director of the Earth Lab, can speak about the risk fireworks pose for starting wildfires, as over 7,000 wildfires have started on the Fourth of July in the past two decades. Balch is available July 1 and 2 for media interviews, but will not be available on Friday, July 3.Ìý
