Blackstone Charitable Foundation establishes entrepreneurship network led by CU-Boulder Law School

The Blackstone Charitable Foundation, together with Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet and the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology, and Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado Law School, today announced the launch of the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network (BEN), a three-year initiative to help Colorado jumpstart the development of high-growth companies with the greatest potential to create new jobs in the region.

Rural microbes could boost city dwellers’ health, according to new paper involving CU-Boulder

The greater prevalence of asthma, allergies and other chronic inflammatory disorders among people of lower socioeconomic status might be due in part to their reduced exposure to the microbes that thrive in rural environments, according to a new scientific paper co-authored by a °µÍø½ûÇø researcher.

NASA chief Bolden spends day with CU-Boulder

Rounding out a full day of touring CU-Boulder facilities and meeting with faculty, staff and students, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden spoke to a packed house on the afternoon of April 18, 2014. Bolden acknowledged the close association CU-Boulder has with the space program, calling the university a “pipeline for talent.â€

CU-Boulder student inventions to be demonstrated April 26 at Engineering Design Expo

A deployable fire hose stand designed for the Longmont Fire Department and a heat-resistant mask designed to protect firefighters and fire victims from poisonous fumes will be among more than 90 student inventions showcased at the °µÍø½ûÇø’s Engineering Design Expo on Saturday, April 26. The event, which is free and open to the public, will feature a wide range of student-built devices including adaptive technology for people with disabilities, Rube Goldberg machines and even hovercrafts.

Norton named 2014 President’s Teaching Scholar

Associate Professor Helen Norton, associate dean for Academic Affairs at Colorado Law, was one of three educators named a 2014 President’s Teaching Scholar, recognized for her ability to skillfully integrate teaching and research at an exceptional level. The title of President’s Teaching Scholar signifies CU’s highest recognition of excellence in and commitment to learning and teaching, as well as active, substantial contributions to scholarly work.
