Incident at UMC

The CU Police Department has reported that there was a stabbing incident at the University Memorial Center at approximately 9:45 a.m. today. The suspect has been taken into custody. The victim has been taken to the hospital and appears to be stable. CU officials have been in communication with the family of the student victim. The south side of the UMC has been secured, the suspect's car is being searched and the police are continuing their investigation.

CU-Boulder Names Argrow, Bowman Associate Deans Of Engineering

University of Colorado at Boulder Professors Brian Argrow and Christopher Bowman have been appointed associate deans in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Argrow will serve as associate dean for education, and Bowman as associate dean for research. The appointments, announced by engineering Dean Robert Davis, were effective Aug. 1. "I am delighted to have two of our top faculty, who excel in both research and teaching, bring their experience and vision to these leadership positions," Davis said.

CU-Boulder Launches New Text-Messaging Service For Campus Alerts, Examines Other Emergency Changes

As they return to campus or begin classes for the first time this fall, University of Colorado at Boulder students will be asked to sign up for a new wireless text-messaging service enabling the campus to notify them swiftly via mobile phone in case of a campus emergency. In the post-Virginia Tech environment, which heightened concern about campusesÂ’ emergency notification systems, a CU-Boulder Task Force decided that quick text messaging via mobile phone would be a valuable addition to current communication systems which link to students in the event of an emergency.

Health Officials To Contact 39 Students Of CU Research Associate Confirmed To Have TB; Officials See No Imminent Health Threat

The University of Colorado at Boulder has identified 39 students who were enrolled in a summer class taught by a School of Education research associate who has tested positive for tuberculosis, CU-Boulder officials said today. The research associate is a Denver resident who has submitted to a voluntary home quarantine, according to Denver Health Medical Center officials who are working with Boulder Public Health and CU officials.

The University of Colorado at Boulder signed a contract today worth an estimated $92 million with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA to build a satellite instrument package to help forecast solar disturbances that affect communication and navigation operations in the United States.

Back To College For Boomers: CU-Boulder Program Enables Residents Age 55 And Over To Sit In On Classes, Revisit Old Interests

Colorado residents age 55 and over can sit in on classes at the University of Colorado at Boulder without paying tuition through a longstanding program that will be available during the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Senior Auditors, created by the CU Board of Regents in 1973, enables nontraditional students to attend most regularly scheduled daytime classes without paying tuition. Participants will not receive academic credit for courses they audit, however, and the program excludes Spanish, Portuguese and Continuing Education classes.
