A second candlelight vigil in remembrance of the victims of the Virginia Tech shootings will be held at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Sunday, April 22, from 8-9 p.m. The event will be held on the Norlin Quad. Candles will be provided. The candlelight vigil aims to unite the Boulder community to express compassion and sympathy for those people who were killed or wounded and for "those whose lives will be forever changed" by the April 16 tragedy, according to CU-Boulder students from Virginia who are organizing the event.

Procedures have been in place for many years at the University of Colorado at Boulder to help campus counselors and administrators identify and reach out to people - including students, faculty and staff - who may be at risk for injuring themselves or others. "Students are encouraged to let us know of students in distress so that we can refer people who need help to various counseling resources on campus," said Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs.

°µÍø½ûÇø 550 students from throughout Colorado will be on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus Saturday, April 28, giving performances, presenting multimedia documentaries and research papers and showing exhibits based on a historical topic. More than 260 teams of students in grades six through 12 will be competing in Colorado History Day, which is part of the largest national humanities education program in the country. The event is free and open to the public and will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the University Memorial Center and other campus locations.

The changing patterns of land use in the American West, and problems of land use planning and growth management, will be examined in a talk by University of Colorado at Boulder geographer William Travis on April 26. Travis, author of the newly released "New Geographies of the American West: Land Use and Changing Patterns of Place," will speak at 6 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 150 on the Boulder campus. A book signing and reception will follow the free, public lecture.

The University of Colorado at Boulder has a long-established Emergency Response Plan to guide the campus in the event of a major campus emergency, according to CU Police Chief Joe Roy. "CU-Boulder has long recognized the importance of emergency planning and coordination among campus departments should a campuswide emergency occur such as the tragic incident this week at Virginia Tech," said Roy.
