Club sports athletes at the University of Colorado at Boulder won national championships in five different sports in 2005, continuing a little-known but long tradition of athletic and academic excellence at the university. "2005 is one of the best years we've ever had," said club sports director Kris Schoech. "CU club sports may go largely unnoticed locally, but we are recognized around the country as one of the top three collegiate club sports programs."

More than 900 people will gather in downtown Denver March 13-15 for a first-of-its-kind conference focused on programs scientifically proven to prevent or reduce youth violence, delinquency and drug use. Nationally renowned experts on youth development will speak at the Blueprints Conference hosted by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The sold-out event will be held at the Adam's Mark Hotel, 1550 Court Place.

The Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs and the Chancellor's Committee on Women at the University of Colorado at Boulder have selected recipients of 2005-06 service recognition awards. The CACMA awards are given to campus units to recognize continuing efforts to create a diverse, supportive, learning, working and living environment for the multicultural campus community. This year's CACMA award recipients include the Integrated Teaching and Learning program and the INVST Community Studies program.

The University of Colorado at Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics will hold a free, public open house for a new, $13 million addition to its Space Technology Building in the CU Research Park on Thursday evening, March 2.

Storytelling, drum performances and a sampling of foods from across Asia are some of the highlights of "Asia Day" at the University of Colorado at Boulder on Saturday, March 4. The free public event presented by the CU-Boulder Center for Asian Studies will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fleming Law Building on the Boulder campus. The law building is located near the corner of Baseline and Broadway, south of Fiske Planetarium and is accessed via Regent Drive.

Assistant Professor Angela Bryan of the University of Colorado at Boulder psychology department has received a national award from the American Psychological Association. Bryan was honored with the association's Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology in the area of health psychology. Bryan's research is focused on the connection between adolescent alcohol and marijuana use and increased risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS.

Researchers and administrators who work on issues of race, ethnicity and class will be given a new voice beginning Feb. 27 as the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Journalism and Mass Communication launches its new "Multiversity" television series.

The University of Colorado Environmental Center's Recycling Program is partnering with The Wireless Alliance to help establish the university's first permanent cell phone recycling program. Campus recycling kiosks will serve as collection sites for students who want to dispose of old cell phones in an environmentally conscious manner and money raised in the recycling campaign will benefit various student organizations within the University of Colorado's Student Union, or student government, according to Jack DeBell of CU's Recycling Services.

The University of Colorado Real Estate Council's 2006 conference -- "A Whole Lot of Shakin' Goin' On!" -- will be held Wednesday, March 1, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center. Co-presented by the CU-Boulder Leeds School of Business and the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the annual conference will offer commentary by national and local experts on the national and local outlook for real estate and capital markets.

The CU-Boulder Friends of the Libraries will present a program titled "Double Double Shadow Trouble: A Jungian View of Hitchcock's 'Strangers on a Train' " by Professor Jim Palmer on Sunday, March 5. An optional showing of the film will begin at 1 p.m. in Eaton Humanities Building room 150 on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus. A reception will follow the film at 2:45 p.m. and the program will be held from 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
