CU-Boulder Campus Begins Search For New Provost

James Williams, dean of libraries at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been appointed chair of a 15-member search committee announced this week to select a new provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs. Candidates for the position, currently held by Interim Provost Susan Avery, will be identified through a national search assisted by a search firm. The provost's salary currently is about $220,000.

CU-Boulder Taps Susan Avery As Interim Provost

Susan Avery, interim vice chancellor for research and dean of the Graduate School at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has been named interim provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, pending approval by the CU Board of Regents. Interim Chancellor Phil DiStefano announced today that he plans to recommend Avery for the position at the next meeting of the Board of Regents on March 24. DiStefano had served as provost before being named to his current position following the resignation of former Chancellor Richard L. Byyny last December.

CU-Boulder Announces Finalists For Dean Of Leeds School Of Business

Three finalists have been named for the position of dean of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The finalists are Gautam Kaul of the University of Michigan, David W. Stewart of the University of Southern California and Dennis A. Ahlburg of the University of Minnesota, according to William Kaempfer, chair of the search committee and vice provost and associate vice chancellor for budget and planning at CU-Boulder. The committee's goal is to hire a new dean for the school effective July 1.

CU-Boulder Engineering Students To Spend Spring Break Volunteering With Habitat For Humanity

A group of 15 architectural engineering students at the University of Colorado at Boulder are planning to spend their spring break helping build homes for low-income families in Oakley, Calif. The project was arranged by the CU-Boulder student chapter of the Architectural Engineering Institute as part of Habitat for Humanity's nationwide Collegiate Challenge program, which encourages college students to do community service by providing a list of local chapters looking for help. The students will be working with the Mt. Diablo chapter of Habitat for Humanity in Concord, Calif.

New Arapaho Tribe Web Site Launched By CU-Boulder Professor, Students

The public can learn more about the Front Range's indigenous American Indian tribe, the Arapaho, thanks to a new Web site produced by students at the University of Colorado at Boulder that will be formally unveiled March 17. A presentation of "The Arapaho Project" and a panel discussion will begin at 7 p.m. in room 270 of the Hale Science Building. The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the CU-Boulder Center of the American West and the Colorado Endowment for the Humanities.

Particles Of Early Universe Topic Of CU-Boulder Talk March 19

The University of Colorado at Boulder's physics department will continue its Saturday Physics Series with a March 19 presentation about the makeup of the universe 14 billion years ago. Physics Assistant Professor Jamie Nagle will present his talk on "Quark Gluon Plasmas," at 2 p.m. in Duane Physics room G1B30. The presentation is free and open to the public.
