The holidays are right around the corner, and for many people that means heading to the mall in search of the perfect gift. But University of Colorado at Boulder Leeds School of Business Professor Donald Lichtenstein says don't let the Christmas rush get in the way of smart shopping. For many, the bombardment of gift ideas and promotions has already begun in the form of store catalogs, television and newspaper advertisements announcing sales, coupons promising savings and "wish lists" from loved ones.

CU-Boulder Students Urged To Contact Physician Quickly For Flu Symptoms; Campus Seeing 20 New Cases Daily

A large number of new flu cases at the University of Colorado at Boulder has campus health officials warning that students, as well as faculty and staff members, should learn to recognize the early symptoms of flu and take steps to see a physician immediately if they experience more than one of the typical symptoms. CU-Boulder's Wardenburg Health Center is now averaging 20 new cases of flu among students daily since the first cases appeared on campus Nov. 5, the day before a campuswide clinic was held offering flu and meningitis shots.

According to physiology Professor Robert Mazzeo of the University of Colorado at Boulder, your best chance at staying injury free is to stay in shape. "Fatigue is one of the primary causes of falls, which are the major cause of injuries," said Mazzeo. "The best way to battle fatigue is to get into shape." Symposium To Address Society's Responses To Cybersecurity Threats

CU-Boulder Chemist Wins National Honor

The American Chemical Society has given a prestigious national award to a renowned University of Colorado at Boulder professor. W. Carl Lineberger was announced as the winner of the 2004 Peter Debye Award in Physical Chemistry for his outstanding and extraordinary contributions to the understanding of chemical energetics, molecular structures and solvent dynamics through the study of charged particles, or ions. Lineberger is an E.U. Condon Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry and a JILA fellow.

CU-Boulder Researchers Developing "Flu Chip" For Fast, Accurate Diagnosis

A team of researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder is developing a "Flu Chip" that will aid physicians in swiftly diagnosing respiratory illness for future flu seasons. The Flu Chip will allow doctors and public health officials to differentiate between three types of influenza and other viruses that cause similar clinical symptoms, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS.

CU-Boulder Natural Hazards Center Funds Two California Wildfire Studies

The Natural Hazards Center at the University of Colorado at Boulder is funding two "Quick Response" studies in the aftermath of California's recent catastrophic wildfires. One study will examine residents' evacuation behavior during the wildfires and the other will look at how politicians and the media interpret and assign responsibility for the fires. The Quick Response studies were funded by the CU-Boulder Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center, in cooperation with the National Science Foundation.

Air Force B-2 Bomber To Perform Flyover At Folsom Stadium For Missouri Game

A U.S. Air Force B-2 bomber will perform a flyover at Folsom Stadium at the University of Colorado at Boulder during the beginning of the Colorado-Missouri game, which kicks off this Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. The flyover will occur right after the singing of the national anthem, a few minutes before the game at about 12:23 p.m., according to Michael Grant, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs.
