CU-Boulder volunteers to help new students move in Aug. 20 and 22

Volunteers from a variety of campus groups will be available to help new students move their belongings into residence halls at the Aug. 20 and Aug. 22 as New Student Move-In begins. New students will move in Aug. 20 through Aug. 22 with the majority of freshmen moving in on Aug. 22.

Fall residence hall move-in parking and traffic impacts

Fall residence hall move-in will begin the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 20 and will continue through Thursday, Aug. 22, 2013. We ask that faculty, staff, and student permit holders on campus honor requests from Parking & Transportation Services (PTS) to temporarily relocate during this time. Traffic on campus may be congested. Consider using alternative methods of transportation to get to campus like bussing, biking, or carpooling. We also ask that vendors avoid deliveries on Tuesday/Thursday of this week; large vehicles will be denied access during peak move-in times.

Dozens of activities await new students at the starting Aug. 22, including a welcome convocation, a Folsom Field pep rally and a “Global Jam” international food and music fest. The free events give new students a chance to get acquainted with each other, the campus and surrounding community before classes start on Aug. 26. The activities are scheduled in addition to orientation sessions that cover the details of class registration, policies and student services at each college.

Colorado Mesa University-CU-Boulder partnership program receives accreditation

The and Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction today announced the successful accreditation of their partnership program by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The partnership program allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from CU-Boulder by taking classes delivered at CMU. The program offers the first-ever baccalaureate engineering degree on Colorado’s Western Slope.

A new high-tech analysis led by a researcher shows the oldest known petroglyphs in North America, which are cut into several boulders in western Nevada, date to at least 10,500 years ago and perhaps even as far back as 14,800 years ago.
