CU-Boulder Entrepreneurship Program Ranked Among Top 20 In Two National Rankings

The CU-Boulder entrepreneurship program was ranked 10th in the nation by faculty from around the country and 14th overall, according to Entrepreneur magazine's April 2003 edition. This was the magazine's first ranking of the 100 top entrepreneurship programs. More than 700 entrepreneurship programs nationwide were evaluated for the study. The rankings were based on more than 30 criteria, including course offerings, faculty, business-community outreach, research centers and institutes, advisory boards, off-campus programs and degrees offered.

'Operation Media Freedom' To Be Held At CU-Boulder April 21-25

Media studies students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at Boulder are staging a weeklong campaign titled "Operation Media Freedom" April 21-25 on the Boulder campus. According to organizers, the events are designed to inform and educate CU students and the Boulder community of the impacts of mainstream media on popular culture and coincide with National Turnoff Your TV Week.

Iraq War Coverage Is Topic Of CU-Boulder Media Panel April 24

"Em Bed With the Military: The Media at War" is the subject of a panel discussion at the University of Colorado at Boulder on April 24 at 7 p.m. in Engineering Center room 245. Scheduled panelists are Charlie Brennan, Rocky Mountain News reporter and embedded journalist who recently returned from Iraq; Vicky Sama, former CNN producer; Michael Tracey, former head of the Broadcasting Research Unit at the BBC in London and faculty member at CU-Boulder's School of Journalism and Mass Communication; and Juliet Wittman, a reporter for Westword.

Fiske Planetarium To Present Highlights Of Cassini Mission To Saturn On April 25

The staff of the University of Colorado at Boulder's Fiske Planetarium will present the latest news about the Cassini spacecraft's mission to Saturn on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. After a seven-year journey, the spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at the planet in July 2004. Staff from the planetarium will show the latest pictures from the Cassini mission and answer questions about Saturn. The Sommers-Bausch Observatory also will be open for visitors to view Saturn, weather permitting.

Morris Dees To Give Free Lecture In Boulder April 18

The University of Colorado at Boulder Cultural Events Board will present a free public lecture Friday, April 18, by a noted champion of anti-discrimination efforts across the country. Attorney Morris Dees' presentation, "Tolerances: Has America Progressed?" will take place at the Flatirons Theater on the Hill at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Colorado History Day To Bring 500 Students To CU-Boulder April 26

Hundreds of students from throughout Colorado will be on the University of Colorado at Boulder campus to present a wide array of projects, many a year in the making, during the 22nd annual Colorado History Day. °µÍø½ûÇø 500 students in grades six through 12 will compete in the event on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the CU-Boulder campus. The winners will move on to the National History Day competition in June. The theme of this year's competition is "Rights and Responsibilities in History."

CU-Boulder Engineering Days Features Egg-Drop, Takeoff Challenge

Urbanization May Not Be As Bad For Farming As Once Thought, According To New Study

A new study suggests that agriculture can successfully coexist with continuing population growth and urban sprawl in some areas of the Great Plains. The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Michigan, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado, found that despite explosive population growth over the last 50 years in Denver, Boulder and other eastern Colorado Plains cities, total harvested area in the region increased by 5 percent and the amount of irrigated land that is harvested jumped by 73 percent.
