Minors

The College of Engineering and Applied Science offers the minors below. Some are open to any undergraduate student at the °µÍø½ûÇø, and some are restricted to students rostered within the college.

Minimum Grades

A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher is required in the courses that are used to satisfy the requirements for these minors. Each individual course that is counted toward these requirements must be passed with a final grade is of D- or better. However, a C- or better is required in all pre-requisite courses.

The minor in architectural engineering serves students who are interested in building science, engineering and system designs. The minor is intended to expose students to basic building science knowledge, engineering and system concepts, and calculation and design skills.

Minor in Biomedical Engineering

The minor is open to students who are interested in a field that lies at the interface of medicine, biology, and engineering. The requirements consist of a gateway course plus five elective courses, so students can tailor the minor according to their interests.

Minor in Civil Engineering

The minor in civil engineering serves students who are interested in an introductory exposure to the broad discipline of civil engineering. The minor is intended to expose students to five sub-disciplines of civil engineering.

Minor in Computational Biology

The Computational Biology (CBIO) Minor at CU teaches undergraduates to combine computational thinking and algorithms to study biological problems and systems. The program prepares students to understand complex biological phenomena and topics including epidemiology, biotechnology, precision medicine and human health, genetics and genomics, environmental systems, data science, and scientific research.

Computing skills will increase your marketability in any field. No matter what major you've chosen, you might consider a minor in computer science.

Minor in Creative Technology & Design

Complement your technical knowledge with creative design skills. Offered through the ATLAS Institute, the CTD minor integrates technical design skills with a critical, theoretical and historical understanding of technology, media and design. Learn more.

The following minors provide training in electrical, computer, or energy engineering beyond the training usually received by science, mathematics, and applied mathematics majors. These minors also can broaden the training of students majoring in other engineering and applied science fields.

  • Quantum Engineering Minor
  • Computer Engineering Minor
  • Electrical Engineering Minor
  • Signals and Systems Minor

Minor in Engineering Entrepreneurship

The minor in engineering entrepreneurship prepares students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to essential entrepreneurship in a startup venture or within a larger corporation. This minor develops entrepreneurial and leadership skills, while introducing you to the multiple facets of entrepreneurship, innovation, creative development and the overall entrepreneurial process.

If you're interested in apply your degree to business and industry, then this minor is for you. You'll broaden your knowledge in project management, leadership, marketing, economics, accounting and finance. The minor is open to students rostered in the college.

Minor in Energy Engineering

The minor is open to students rostered in engineering. The requirements consist of technical energy courses, an energy policy course and an interdisciplinary projects course, which is comprised of students who are enrolled in the minor, and is focused on the design and analysis of energy technologies from a technical, economic and policy perspective.

The minor is open to students who are interested in broadening their perspective on the role of engineering beyond their major. You'll learn how to work with international teams and understand mulitinational contexts.

Minor in Materials Science and Engineering

This 18-credit minor is designed for students in natural sciences and engineering majors and provides skills for a broad range of jobs, including advanced computing and electronics, biotechnology and medicine, energy and sustainability, nanotechnology, construction, and manufacturing.

Minor in Quantum Engineering

The quantum engineering minor provides a unique overview of one of the fastest-growing technological fields and will help to prepare you for the quantum workforce of today and tomorrow. It is part of a larger campus-wide effort to make quantum theory accessible to non-physics majors and build the state and national quantum workforce. It is open to students from diverse STEM backgrounds, regardless of major or college.
