Broader Impacts Highlights

Science Discovery can help showcase your work:

Family STEAMfest

CU Science Discovery hosts a Family STEAMfest event each spring that is free and open to the public. Families with children of all ages are invited to get hands-on with all things science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). This event provides an opportunity for CU Boulder scientists and researchers to share their work with the community through interactive activities designed to inspire curiosity and elicit interest in CU science. This annual event draws on average of 1,000+ attendees.

Reverse Science Fair

The Reverse Science Fair is an event that flips the script on the traditional science fair model. Born out of a partnership between Northglenn High School and CU Science Discovery, the Reverse Science Fair challenges CU Boulder graduate students to present their research in a way that’s engaging and easy to digest. Through this event, graduate students are given an opportunity to teach high school students about their research and to get immediate feedback and critique regarding their presentations. The primary goal of this program is to get high school students to make a connection with scientists in STEM fields and explore various fields of science, while encouraging scientists to hone their science communication skills.

BioBlitz

This event turns students into scientists as they observe, identify and record as many different organisms as possible! At the most recent Crest View BioBlitz, 90 4th graders worked in small groups with researchers and naturalists from CU Boulder, , and . In two hours on a chilly spring day, they found approximately 135 different organisms! The key takeaways from this event were that everyone had a great time (including one student who was quoted as saying, "This was totally worth missing recess for!"), and no one could believe how many things they were able to find when they looked closely.
